The Molecular Fitness Blood Test™ puts gold-standard VO₂ Max testing into a simple, at-home blood test. It goes beyond oxygen alone to estimate and map the unique molecular signatures of fitness from unique proteins in the blood.

Why VO₂ Max?

VO₂ Max is the gold-standard of cardiorespiratory fitness, a crucial metric of endurance performance, and the best independent clinical predictor of all-cause mortality and chronic disease. Long considered a vital sign by the American Heart Association, this crucial metric is difficult, costly and time consuming to measure using traditional testing methods.

VO Health has been on a mission to take laboratory-grade VO₂ Max testing and make it easy and scalable for athletes, clinicians, coaches and health enthusiasts to do.

How We Built the Test

Our Molecular Fitness Blood Test is Built on gold-standard lab measurement, deep proteomic profiling, and machine learning trained on thousands of human samples. Our dataset includes a wide range of individuals, ages 18-82, including Olympic rowers, triathletes, marathon runners and cyclists to individuals in their late 70s living with chronic diseases, and everybody in between.

The result: a Molecular VO₂ Max estimate, a unique Molecular Fitness Score, and 10 biological pathway scores that sit underneath your scores - scores such as inflammation, fat metabolism, oxygen transport, oxidative stress.

Frequently asked questions

When will I receive my results?

During our early launch phase, results are delivered via email within 3–5 weeks of receiving your sample. We're actively optimizing our operations and expect to significantly reduce turnaround time in the coming months.

How does the self-collection blood testing device work?

We use a capillary self-collection device developed by Tasso. The device is designed for a comfortable, quick and painless experience. Most users report feeling little to nothing during collection. You can learn more about how it works: https://www.tassoinc.com/tassoplus-video

How does this test compare to other VO₂ Max measurements?

Our test is the most accurate blood-based measure of VO₂ Max that currently exists, explaining 90% of fitness from proteins in the blood. While grounded in gold-standard maximal VO₂ Max data, it measures fitness in a fundamentally new way, and we recommend that you treat it as its own unique lens rather than a direct comparison to a treadmill test or smartwatch.

How often should I retest?

We recommend testing at minimum 1–2 times per year Athletes training for an event are encouraged to track more frequently, every 1-2 months, to track changes in your fitness over time.

What if my score is different from my VO₂ Max exercise test and/or smartwatch estimate?

That's completely expected. This test measures proteins in your blood rather than cardiovascular output, so a direct comparison isn't the right frame. Think of it as a new dimension of fitness data, one that complements your other metrics rather than competing with them.

How often do you update your algorithms?

Our test is currently in its early launch phase, which means it is the first live version of our algorithms that have been released. We are actively updating and improving our algorithms as we receive and analyze new data and insights.

Is your test covered by insurance?

Our test is not a clinical diagnostic test and is not covered by insurance. However this test may be eligible to for FSA/HSA Coverage through Burst. Visit getburst.com/go/vo-health to learn more. This test and report is intended to assist you in maintaining and encouraging a healthy lifestyle, and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition.
