What is Molecular Fitness?

Molecular Fitness is the real-time biological readout of your body's cardiorespiratory capacity measured by the proteins circulating in your blood right now.

Your blood proteome encodes the cumulative signal of every system involved in oxygen delivery and utilization: how actively your capillaries are growing, how efficiently your cells burn fat, how well your mitochondria are generating energy, and how effectively your body recovers from physical stress.

Your Molecular Fitness profile is uniquely yours.

Molecular Fitness is distinct from traditional fitness metrics because it is mechanistically grounded: each score is traceable to specific biological pathways, each pathway to specific proteins, and each protein to a known physiological function.

Frequently asked questions

When will I receive my results?

During our beta phase, results are delivered within 4–8 weeks of receiving your sample. We're actively optimizing our operations and expect to significantly reduce turnaround time in the coming months.

Does using the Tasso blood collection device hurt?

The Tasso device is designed for a comfortable, painless experience — most users feel little to nothing during collection.

How does this test compare to other VO₂ Max measurements?

Our test is the most accurate blood-based measure of VO₂ Max that currently exists. While grounded in gold-standard maximal VO₂ Max data, it measures fitness in a fundamentally new way, and we recommend that you treat it as its own unique lens rather than a direct comparison to a treadmill test or smartwatch.

How often should I retest?

We recommend testing at least 1–2 times per year, though you can retest as frequently as monthly to track changes in your fitness over time.

What if my score is different from my VO₂ Max exercise test and/or smartwatch estimate?

That's completely expected. This test measures proteins in your blood rather than cardiovascular output, so a direct comparison isn't the right frame. Think of it as a new dimension of fitness data — one that complements your other metrics rather than competing with them.

Is this test CLIA certified?

VO Health operates a CLIA-certified lab in New Haven, CT for clinical chemistry. This specific test is currently in beta and is not yet CLIA certified, but we are actively working toward certification and expect to achieve it by early 2027.
